New Years Idea

New Years is this following weekend so I wanted to do something with the holiday. I decided to bring in my white stocking and have them all write down one New Years resolution. I will have them seal them in envelopes and tell them I will give them to them next year and we will see if they accomplished their goal. ( 3-5 min)
After this I have about 5 different gift bags filled with different funny "party hats, or things to wear" We will sing an opening song and I will tell them that the loudest class will get to choose a package that either they or their teacher can wear. I' am going to have different questions with each package like;

1. What is a goal you want to work on at home?
2. What is a goal you want to work on at school?
3. What is something you want to get better at?
4. What is something new you want to try this year?
5. What is a goal you want to work on with family?

When a class picks one they will all answer and then choose their favorite song. We will see how this goes! It will help them think about setting goals and resolutions.

Lesson 7: Faith in Jesus Christ

I know that the main object lesson for faith is growing a seed. I love that idea and think it is a good long term project but I wanted to do something in my class today that would help them understand faith.

We are going to be detective today. Detective are people who find out the truth about things using clues. They ask people questions and look for things that will help them know the truth. Today we are going to walk around the church and find clues that help us know Jesus Christ is real. When the kids find a clue since they can't write I will write it down in a little notebook. We will also ask a couple of people how they know Jesus Christ is true.

Make detective badges

Some clues:
scriptures
we sing songs about him in primary
we go to church
our parents teach us about him
other people's testimonies

Lesson 6: The church has been restored

Children this age have a hard time understanding what the word "restoration" means. To help bring it to their level, give each child a piece of gum. Have your class start chewing their piece of gum. Then after a few moments say, "Now, I need you to "restore" that piece of gum. Is it possible? Have them take their piece of gum and put it back into the wrapper and wrap it back up, exactly as they had been given to them. Explain that by chewing it, it couldn't "restored" and why. Can we put that gum together like brand new? No. When Joseph Smith was young, he was confused about all the different religions. Each had a "piece" of the truth, but no one had all the "pieces". Heavenly Father was able to put all those pieces together and "restore" His church through Joseph Smith.

Display a bouquet of four artificial flowers and one real flower. Ask how the flowers are different from one another. Point out that the main difference is that only one is a true flower. Explain that though there are many churches in the world today, only one of them is the true Church of Jesus Christ. Look up D&C 1:30 and read it together. Help the children discover the significance of the Church’s name by writing each word of its name on a strip of paper and putting the strips into a box. Have several children draw the strips out of the box and hang them in order on the wall. (Idea taken from the July 2001 Sharing Time Suggestion)

Lesson 5: The first vision

Pop Up Craft

You will need:- drinking straw- a paper cup- a printout that says, "Heavenly Father Has A Body"- a copy of the above clipart (from the Friend Magazine)- crayons, scissors and tapeHave the children color the pictures, cut out and assemble according to the following two pictures. Use the tip of the scissors to poke a small hole in the bottom of the cup. The children love having Heavenly Father and Jesus pop out of the cup, showing he has a body. Here are two finished pictures of my son's cup...once I could pry it out of his hands..hee, hee! (click on either one to enlarge): Click to enlarge pictures
